I met abhijit during our school days, we went to same tuitions. He was this lanky funny guy with a huge mustache. I particularly remember him because his surname was Mahato, and his schoolmates used to tease him calling Ma-Hati
Never saw him getting upset with this though. He was as good as taking a joke on himself as he was cracking on others. May be he was even a little better on taking it on himself.
We were in same BE university also. As it happens with so many people, we lost touch since we left university. Just few months back Abhijit contacted me on orkut. I did not recognize him at first. It was 6 years after we met last, and he changed a lot since. After he managed to remind me of himself, I was very embarrassed and he was pulling my leg on my bad BAD memory. My excuse was that I would have recognized him, if he used his surname "Ma-Hati" or at least kept his mustache. After all as we all know "Go(n)pher ami, Go(n)pher tumi, Go(n)ph die jae chena". As usual he took the joke and replied, " I didn't know I was supposed to talk to you, otherwise would have kept my Go(n)ph" and laughed off.
Today morning, I saw a photo in newspaper. An Indian student was killed last night, in his apartment in the US university, he was doing his phd.
It's an old photo, with mustache, and his name was spelled in big letters in headline. I had no problem recognizing him today.
